In fact when the Chinese bought RoverMG Group (but not the Rover brand name) they sent some guys over from China for the RoverMG guys to show how to use it, then they all took it apart, containered it up, sent it to China and then rebuilt it with the help of the British guys who were now out of work as their jobs had gone back in the U.K.

Talk about insult to injury.

Like the factory that was round the corner from me that made seatbelts for Jaguar, etc... The company moved production to Poland to save money, but paid the remaining U.K. work force massively well to go to Poland to show them how to do it.

A German pronouncing it would sound strangely similar to a slightly fancy Englishman pronouncing “Rover.”

Rovers final 20 years or so were absolutely brutal, but also incredibly interesting to read about. Some of the stuff that happened to Rover is so ridiculous that it’s almost unbelievable

Ye’, the final years with the RWD Rover 75 and 75 V8 and MG ZT V8, the SVT, the concept for the return of the Riley name with a coupe of the Rover 75/MG ZT.

There was a couple of duds like the Rover 25 Streetwise which was a lifted and plastic skirted Rover 25 and the Rover Cityrover which was a rebadged Indian Tata Indica (god that thing was awful, a colleague at work had one, said it was slow, loud and crap MPG).

Ro-wea. It’s meant to be how a Chinese person pronounces Rover as Ford retained the licence to the brand name of Rover as they owned Land Rover at the time and thought if the Chinese do a bad job with Rover t may have a knock-on effect with the Land Rover name being brought down.

We had a Rover 75 1.8 Connoisseur in dark metallic blue which suited it well. I didn’t like the car as the seating was too crampt but the electric rear sun blind was a nice touch.

The bad cars were especially bad (I firmly believe that the CityRover is the only car ever made without a single redeeming feature) but the good stuff they did was great, especially when you consider that BMW essentially bled them dry to make the new mini. A lot of their line up was either Honda based or used the surprising good K-series engine (At least it was good if you sorted the head gasket issues), so no problems there, they also introduced the MGF/TF, which I’ve heard good things about, as well as using some sort of engineering witchcraft to keep the mini alive until 2000, as well as all the stuff you’ve already mentioned, and did all of this while having tiny budgets to work with, and remaining less expensive than any decent competition
